Foundation Canine is honored to have helped countless clients find, train, and utilize their service animals.
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service dogs are defined as any dog that is trained to mitigate their handler’s disability. There is NO national certification or registration, though Foundation Canine has assisted clients with airlines or housing by supplying endorsements of training.
Our service dog training program is easily customizable, and assists owners with reaching a high standard of training. Service dogs should be unobtrusive in public, seamlessly work with their handler, and be able to task reliably. The training we do emphasizes not just how to teach the dogs the skills they need, but to also teach the handler how to integrate those skills in a way that fosters a good relationship and a dog that truly loves their job.
Foundation Canine currently trains:
Mobility assistance dogs
Hearing alert dogs
Psychiatric service dogs
Medical alert dogs (excluding seizure alert dogs)
Allergen detection dogs
Foundation Canine does NOT train:
Guide dogs for the visually-impaired
Seizure alert dogs
All dogs wanting to undergo training as a service dog at Foundation Canine must pass a temperamental exam, and if necessary, a physical exam from a licensed veterinarian. The process of training as a service dog is a long term commitment that cannot be achieved in a few lessons or a short board and train, and a dog may be deemed unsuitable at any point in time due to changing medical conditions or environmental factors effecting the dog’s temperament. SERVICE DOG
A service dog is a dog that is trained to perform specific tasks that mitigates their handler’s disability. This disability must be considered “life-altering,” and the dog must be trained to perform specific actions that mitigate that disability.
With training, a service dog is granted public access rights to joint their handler in non-pet friendly places. There is NO registration or certification for service dogs in the US.

THERAPY DOG
A therapy dog is a dog that is trained in manners and generally holds a calm, loving demeanor, and is taken to visit schools, nursing homes, hospitals, and more.
Therapy dogs may be required to be certified, and do NOT have public access rights in non-pet friendly spaces.

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMAL
Emotional support animals are pets that provide comfort to their owner. They do not require any specific training, and there is no certification or registration required.
Emotional Support Animals may be admitted to non-pet friendly housing, but are NOT granted public access rights in non-pet friendly spaces.
